Post subject:  Pottery Vase ID I have been all over the Internet Looking fo

hello, I a=m going nuts trying to find an ID on this vase. I have been all over the internet looking and asking if any recognizes this beautiful piece.
It's a large large 13" vase . I liked the subtle matte glaze and the soft mottled pattern.
It has some worn felt on the bottom and when I looked under it it was only marked with a #113. The bottom isn't cracked, its just some paint chipping off.
The first picture shows it's true colors as I was able to photo it in just the right light for a change.
Any guesses who the maker might be?
Thank you!

I did some searching too and haven't found it yet either. The color of the clay might be the best place to start narrowing down a general region where it originated. ( http://www.cajunc.com/art-american-pottery ) Rosemeade or Dryden maybe? From the photo I don't know if it is to dark to be from Ohio? In what state did you buy it? Sometimes pieces don't travel too far.

Hi and thank you for your help

Boy, this is an adventure! This piece in person is so unique and beaurtiful. I can't imagine it came from Marshalls or TJ Maxx the last few years
The clay is white and I found it in Florida. Here items can come from anywhere. We have a a large elderly population and when they pass the families don't seem to want "old things" so I found it at a thrift shop for $2.00.
I'm looking at both Dryden and Rosemeade on ebay right now...I can't believe how many lousy pictures people use when selling something!!
Just looked at a bunch and the bottoms of both makers are flat where mine, Im not sure of the right word is "dimensional" as seen in the picture. The bottom of mine is also rougher, not smoothly finished.
If you look up Weller Bedford line the bottom of mine vase matches with the bottom of the Bedford line, the same rough bottom, the same green paint BUT I have never seen this as a Weller shape nor seen a Weller marked with a number. An end of the day piece or experimental?
I would be happy it take it to a pottery expert for evaluation but here most "experts" are out of the Antique Malls and I know just as much ( not much) as they :-)
Here is another picture of the bottom of mine and again THANK YOU. You seem to enjoy the search and to me it's part of the thrill to finally discover who made our wonderful pieces of art.
I don't think there is a nicer way to acknowledge the wonderful potters of the past

LG

Hi I sent some pictures up to an Ebay pottery seller. They has some Bedford pieces up for sale and also gave their phone #. The ad said call them anytime to talk antiques with them.....so I did.
I sent up a ton of pictures taken every which way and I just got a call back.
It is a piece of Roseville Pouleo..I'm fainting. I knew it was a good piece but not THAT good.
Well, with three cats, the piece is wrapped and put away until I decide what to do with it...mystery solved

Great find!
I would keep it away from the felines as well!! :D

I suggest putting it on your mantle, as a trophy. You saw a good piece &, bought it on instinct.
The most fun thing about collecting pottery for me is holding a hundred yr. old, two dollar piece at Goodwill, & just knowing it's special.

Confirmation of a great find is icing on the cake. Kudos!

Thank you! I've made a few good finds. I had no clue I had a pretty decent eye until I started looking .

I'm not comfortable keeping something that is in perfect condition and a fairly important piece of pottery that is close to 100 yrs. It's amazing a piece that old has stayed so beautiful. I have found a Roseville Hexagon with a small chip for $3.00 at a flea market, not an antique dealers stall but one of the sellers that does more yard sale types of selling. I am keeping that and other pottery I don't feel so afraid around. LOL'

I have another goodie I found at GW for under $5.00 and I think it's another "find". Not pottery but a litho..I post it later!
Thanks for your kind words

Hi...I've been back and forth from NY the last three months. My mother had been ill and passed away at 89.

The litho is an original John Gould & H.C. Richter Fringilla coelebs, in excellent condition, 15" by 22" framed ( meh). I thought it was from The Birds of Europe 1832-37 but I don't see anything that done with HC Richter that's not from the Great Britain book done in the 1860s....what do I know

Lousy photo taken with my ipad

My guess would be that you have a Burley Winter vase based on the glaze and the way the glaze dripped down on the bottom. I have never seen this shape so I could be way off base......
I guess I was. I just saw you identified it as roseville!

You aren't the first to think it was BW. I was just as surprised to find out it was a Roseville. I sold it, I was afraid to have such a valuable piece around my house. I'm a klutz, we have three cats and I really enjoy the search for goodies! So I'm looking for the next big thing
