Tyler here. (your friendly forum administrator ;) )
I like to collect all kinds of pottery but mainly interested in pieces made right here in the good 'ole US of A. My favorite place to find pottery are garage sales, estate sales and Goodwill / thrift shops. My worst pottery experience was once when I actually held 2 pieces of .99 cent pottery and didn't buy them. I later discovered that they were both early George Ohr pieces worth about $1,500 each!!! Needless to say I am now very familiar with his stuff & it won't happen again.

Hi Tyler! just read your post (as I am trying to familarize myself with this new site, and going to try to leave a responce & see how it goes). I couldn't have found a better comment to leave a comment on - I almost fell outta my chair when I read what you held in your hands, only to "afterward" realize the 99 cent buy would have been a good one! That would have broke my heart!
You hear of these kinds of stories on the news where people go and buy something at the thrift store & it's worth thousands. Have you ever thought about the people who (more than likely) donated the item? Could you imagine seeing something on televison that 'you' donated & someone else bought that turned out to be a gold mine? ............ Have thought about that each time I hear of someones good fortune that I had to mention it.
Happy Hunting!

Hi Deb,
Yes, I actually thought of the poor people (more so now) that donated those two pieces! If only they new what they had. :( If only, I had know what I had! It's those kinds of stories & the thrill of the hunt that keeps me interested. Well, to be honest here are the reasons that I collect antique pottery (one of my other sites that I never update) http://www.artpotterycollectors.com/?p=25
Relate to any of those?
Tyler
