I received this from the form on http://www.oldantiquepottery.info Comments = I have an antique ceramic/pottery barn with Sharon Merrill design inscribed on the bottom. There are salt & pepper shakers in the shape of a silo and small outbuilding. It belonged to an aunt residing on a farm in western Ohio. Do you have any info on this item? Thank you. Susan Reply = Hi Susan, I suspect that your pottery is associated with Vernon Kilns from sometime in the 50's. I found this entry on Wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernon_Kilns) "In 1952, Elliot House was hired as art director and continued to work with outside contract artists and designers such as Jean Goodwin Ames and Sharon Merrill. In 1958, Vernon Kilns closed their pottery due to mounting labor costs and competition from foreign imports. Metlox Manufacturing Company, Manhattan Beach, California, bought the molds and continued to manufacture some of Vernon's patterns in their Vernonware division." Hope that helps your search. |
